Dr. Michael Javaheri

Nationally Renowned Retina Specialist in Beverly Hills Serving the Community for Over Two Decades

Born and raised in Los Angeles, Dr. Michael Javaheri completed his undergraduate studies in Neuroscience at UCLA, graduating summa cum laude with departmental honors. He went on to earn his medical degree from the Keck School of Medicine of USC.

Following a medical internship at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, he completed his ophthalmology residency at the prestigious Doheny Eye Institute/USC Department of Ophthalmology. Dr. Javaheri then pursued a two-year fellowship in vitreoretinal diseases and surgery at the Doheny Retina Institute, USC, where he was awarded the distinguished Heed Ophthalmic Foundation Fellowship—an honor granted annually to a select group of the nation’s most promising ophthalmologists. During this time, he also earned a Master’s degree in Cell and Neurobiology from USC, where he studied the effects of electrical stimulation on retinal physiology.

Dr. Javaheri has received numerous awards and research grants and has authored multiple peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters. His scientific work has been presented at national and international meetings and published in leading journals including Ophthalmology, JAMA Ophthalmology, and Retina. He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), the American Society of Retinal Specialists (ASRS), and the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO). Dr. Javaheri is Board Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology (ABO).

Currently, Dr. Javaheri serves as Managing Partner and Director of Research at RSBH. He also sits on the boards of the Doheny Professional Alumni Association, the Masket Foundation, and the Los Angeles Society of Ophthalmology. In addition, he remains active in academic teaching as an Adjunct Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at the Keck School of Medicine of USC.

Beyond patient care, Dr. Javaheri has made significant scholarly contributions to ophthalmology through clinical research and education. His work focuses on improving real-world outcomes for patients with retinal diseases, particularly macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy. He has also served as a principal investigator and collaborator in numerous national clinical trials that have shaped modern retinal therapeutics. His publications and educational initiatives continue to advance the standard of care and inform the next generation of ophthalmologists worldwide.

 

Peer Leadership and Advocacy

A respected voice in the retina community, Dr. Javaheri plays an active role in professional societies and advocacy initiatives. He serves on the Board of Directors of the Los Angeles Society of Ophthalmology (LASO), one of the region’s oldest and most respected professional organizations dedicated to advancing eye care and physician education. In this role, he has helped strengthen collaboration among ophthalmologists across subspecialties, enhance the society’s educational programs, and attract top-tier speakers from across the country to enrich the local ophthalmic community. He serves on the ASRS Health Economics Committee, where he is responsible for establishing a health economics research agenda including, but not limited to, comparative-effectiveness and benefit analyses; conducting collaborative research; and disseminating findings. He regularly contributes to discussions on healthcare economics, drug safety, and innovations in retinal therapeutics. His presentations at conferences and academic forums emphasize the future of gene therapy, advances in surgical technology, and the evolving role of data in optimizing retinal care.
